INM

The National Metrology Institute (NIM) has the mission to ensure the traceability and respectively the credibility at regional and international level of the measurements made in the Republic of Moldova.

To this end, with the support of the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the assistance of the World Bank Competitiveness Improvement Project, INM's laboratories were endowed with measuring equipment, and metrology specialists received specialized training and experience transfer with metrology institutions, whose competence is recognized internationally.

Currently, the NIM presents a complex structure, consisting of 7 laboratories that constitute the basic capability of the institution, together with the other departments necessary for organizing and carrying out research programs, maintenance and development of the national base of standards.

By acting in accordance with its mission, the INM team performs a wide range of activities for which it uses state-of-the-art equipment, applies appropriate measurement and research techniques, and is in a process of continuous education.

Within COOMET and EURAMET, internationally recognized regional metrology organizations perform measurements and exchange experiences with colleagues from Germany, Romania, Slovakia, Russia, Georgia, Ukraine and other countries. Communicating with other metrology colleagues is an effective way to update your knowledge.

By implementing at national level the newest measurement techniques, NIM pursues the objective of ensuring consumer rights to strictly pay for the volume of consumed products, to ensure the quality and harmlessness of food products, the safety of pharmaceuticals, etc.

Currently, there are no production processes that do not involve measurements. In the case of foodstuffs, different types of measurements ensure accurate dosing of the components of which the product is composed and, in the case of pre-packaged products, the measuring means ensures the exact volume of the product indicated on the packaging. In the field of building materials, there are other types of measurements that ensure the correct dosage of the concrete components and the quality of which depends directly on the reliability of the constructions. The same is true of drug production, the machinery industry, the oil industry or any other production.

The evolution of the technologies is impossible without accurate measurements, therefore the more technologically advanced the product, the higher the requirements for the accuracy of the measurements. In this respect, the NIM seeks to provide the business environment with the knowledge, experience and technical capabilities available to them. They strive to develop communication with economic operators and want to expand the spectrum of activities to contribute to the development of the national economy.
